So, yesterday was my dear brothers 50th birthday. Talk about a milestone! He is a wonderful human being and I love him dearly. Growing up we were best friends and did everything together including getting in trouble. Once while we playing robbers (I was always the bad guy), he tied my hands behind my back and my feet together, left me in a closet. He said he would be right back, but he never came back. I managed to shuffle my way out, tripped and fell on my face and got a bloody nose. Needless to say I was a little bitter about that. I got revenge by pushing him down the stairs. I know it sounds like we were violent children, but we didn't behave like that all the time.
Mostly I just want to honor him, because he has always been there for me and my family. Our father died when we were teenagers and he became the "Man of the House". He was my protector and always looked after me. He has been very generous with my family. When my three older children were younger he bought them jackets, snow suits, and boots so they could stay warm during the cold North Dakota winters. He also gaves us money when we were struggling to make ends meat. He has been to every major event in my children's life. He confirmed all four of my children at their baptisms. He has stood in the circle for every baby blessing, and has driven many more miles for two graduations. Mostly he has been a pillar of faith and a great example of the Priesthood. He overcame much to serve a mission, and waited a whole year to take his bride to the temple because he wanted to do right the first time. I share all these thoughts because I don't want my children to forgot how special he is. So, Happy Birthday Marco, I'm right behind you!

Happy Birthday Ammon!
My boy is a gift. I told him that this morning when I wished him a Happy Birthday. Since the day he was born he has been a gift from god. I prayed fervently to have a son and I promised the Lord just as Hannah did, that I would raised him up unto the Lord. It has not been difficult at all. He has always been close to the spirit. Even when he doesn't make the right choices he is humble in his repentance. He is such an example to me. The other day I asked him what he prays for and he said; for others (like his friends) to accept the gospel. He was a missionary before he was born. We were able to share the gospel by telling the story of Ammon and King Lamoni.People always found that interesting.
Last night he went and had his interview with the Bishop. He came home with a temple recommend, and a certificate to get his patriarchal blessing. This is quite a milestone in his life and he's looking forward to legally driving and dating. He is a true joy, and a blessing.I fill a real sense of duty to protect him from the world, especially since I promised. It has been easy he knows what's right and wants to serve as a missionary.
Everyday I see him reading his scriptures and saying his prayers. He is willing to go without friends to do what is right. He doesn't care what other people think and at times when it has been hard I've seen him take great courage and do the right thing anyway.
So Sunday we will sustain him as a priest and he will be able to bless the sacrament. He has been preparing by memorizing the sacrament prayer. He's very excited about this milestone in his life.
So, today and as the tears of gratitude fall from my eyes I will remember seeing his sweet face for the first time and having a son, a child of god placed in my arms. In honor of his birthday I will be watching the video of his birth and I will shed more tears, but they will be tears of joy. Ammon, you are my gift and it has been a privilege to be your mother. I love you with all my heart!!
